Everyone in your group thinks they know the most. Hockey IQ is the number that settles it.

One honest number

Hockey IQ is the share of your calls that came true, next to how many calls it's built on:

That's all it is. Every card on every game counts the same: a Game Winner call is worth exactly as much as a first goal scorer. No points, no multipliers, no bonus rounds. 64% means the same thing for you as it does for a stranger in Edmonton.

What counts

• Counts: every call you made before puck drop, once the game is graded.
• Doesn't count: your heart pick on Game Winner, picks made after puck drop, and cards called off because a game was postponed or a player didn't play.

Getting on the board

Your Hockey IQ goes public, on the club and league boards, after 25 graded calls, which is five games. Your friends board counts from night one. Until then you can see your progress ("18 of 25 predictions toward your Hockey IQ"), and everyone else sees that you're still establishing yours.

Where you rank

• Your friends. Who's right here. The board that matters most, and it counts from night one.
• Your club. Who knows this club: accuracy on your club's games.
• The fanbases. The smartest fanbase this week, by the average accuracy of every fan who follows each club. It resets every Monday.
• The league. Who knows the league, across every game.

Why no points

Points reward volume and bonus-hunting. A percentage rewards being right. You can't grind your way to a good Hockey IQ, you can only earn it, and that's what makes it worth bringing up.
